This article, Magnus Petri, is an article only to be used by Bear D. Weed.

Magnus Petri also known as "Azrael", is the chief of CP9 and the World Government's best assassin. He is somewhat of a mythological figure within the Grand Line since only a select few have ever seen him and lived to tell the tale. Azrael has been dubbed by pirates "The Devil's Grace" since his kill count is believed to number in the hundreds but his victims always appear to die peacefully. Azrael follows Preemptive Justice, and shuts down activities before they have the opportunity to get off the ground. Under him, CP9 has dramatically increased their activity, however, due to their efficiency, they remain largely unknown by most pirates and the general population.

Appearance[]

Magnus is a short and slim man with spiky jet-black hair and dark-grey eyes. He often appears wearing his signature black trench coat over his black suit. He often is holding a cigarette in his mouth.

Personality[]

When he was a little kid, Magnus had a cute introverted personality. He always appeared to be deeply immersed in his sketchbook and only became talkative when asked about what he was drawing. Those around him always described him as incredibly perceptive, being able to notice almost everything about his surroundings.

After losing his parents, Magnus' personality became much darker and he came to be shunned by the town due to his off-putting personality. He constantly had a look in his eyes which could be described as driven and vengeful. He rarely spoke outside of when buying food.

Over his years at CP9 Magnus has become even colder, becoming completely desensitized to death. However, he does show affection towards regular people and a random passerby would likely describe him as a kindly gentleman. He also is strongly attached to his team at CP9 who he views like his family and can often be seen smiling while among them.

While on missions, Magnus can only be described as efficient, every word that comes out of his mouth serves a purpose and he won't speak any more than necessary. Before engaging an enemy he has is likely to sketch out the layout of the residence, the person themselves, and any notable individual he believes he could possibly encounter on the mission. He never speaks to his targets outside of interrogation since his belief in Preemptive Justice is so extreme he views those who threaten the greater peace as subhuman.

Early Childhood[]

Magnus Petri was born November 17 in the year 1493 on the West Blue forest island of Montres. His parents are Cain and Donna Petri. At age 4 begins Magnus accompanying his father on his hunts. Magnus takes his sketchbook with him where he draws detailed accounts of the incredible plants and animals he encounters during his excursions. Several weeks in, his father begins to teach him survivalist skills including tracking, camouflage, botany, and plant toxicology. Magnus consistently sketches everything his father would show him in extreme detail.

On Magnus' 6th birthday, Cain gifted his son his first hunting knife and recurve bow. Cain told Magnus that the latter was going to hunt his first Lizardhog. Before they began the hunt, Cain sat Magnus down and told him, "When a hunter kills, he seeks not to inflict pain, but to provide and protect those he cares for. Kill quickly and cleanly." Carefully applying what he had learned over the last couple of years, Magnus tracked the Lizardhog to a small clearing on the side of a mountain in the forest. Magnus drew his bow and after careful aim, killed the Lizardhog with a clean shot through the eye. Cain congratulated his son and the two returned home.

Magnus spends two days a week in Nota City with his mother Donna at the market. There, she sells goods crafted from the remains of the beasts Cain and Magnus hunted. While there, he accompanies his best friend, the street urchin Dylan Russo. Magnus chases Dylan to obscure locations in Nota where they talk about their dreams as Magnus sketches the scenery.

The Great Mafia War[]

When Magnus was ten, The Great Mafia War reached the island of Montres.

The Siege of Nota[]

During The Siege of Nota, Magnus' family goes through great economic struggle due to the increased tax and inability to hunt outside the city. Two weeks into the siege, the family sells off all their assets and can no longer afford to pay the tax to the Corleone Family. The following collecting period, the three are evicted from their homes. Magnus struggles to cope with a pregnant Donna's consistently deteriorating condition.

Once the family was homeless, Dylan becomes a key part of the Petri's survival. He leads Magnus to areas plentiful in leftovers. Magnus consistently takes everything he can carry gives it to Donna. A month into the siege, the Bege Family invades Nota City and open warfare ensues. Neither Cain or Magnus are willing to leave Donna, but both of Magnus' parents are determined to ensure their child's survival. Cain knocks Magnus unconscious and drags him to their hideout.

Magnus comes to and quickly remembers what happened. Dylan urges Magnus to stay and hide but Magnus ignores him. He applies the skills he had learned while hunting and while chasing Dylan around the city to reach where his parents were undetected. When he arrives, he finds his mother dead and father mortally wounded. He rushes to his father and tells him everything is going to be ok and begs for Cain not to leave him. Cain hands his son his prized knife, Yugana and tells his son to use the blade to carve himself the life he desires.

Magnus swears vengeance upon the dead bodies of his parents and vows to work to prevent conflicts before they happen so that he can prevent mass suffering from happening to others.
