Mushin (むしん Mushin?), also known as the "Ghostly Shadow" ("死霊の影" "Shiryō no Kage"?), is a Vice Admiral of the Marines stationed at their headquarters in Marineford. He is well-known for his intimidating power and enigmatic, but lethal presence. With his silky black hair and piercing red eyes, he cuts a stunning figure that evokes both awe and dread in those who meet him. Despite his intimidating look, Mushin is considered to be a man of few words, preferring to let his deeds speak for themselves. He glides with incredible elegance and agility, appearing to vanish and reappear like a phantom as he navigates the battlefield. Mushin is noted for his fierce, uncompromising temperament in battle, as his moniker of the "Black Phoenix" (黒鳳凰 Kurohouou?) indicates.
His fighting style is a tribute to his mastery of both hand-to-hand combat and swordsmanship, and his quick reflexes and acute instincts allow him to easily anticipate and counter his opponents' assaults. Mushin's reputation precedes him, yet even to those closest to him, he is still a mystery. Few are aware of his background or his reasons for fighting for the Marines with such unflinching passion.
